Artist biography

Of anthopological nature, the art practice of Virginie Laganière (Montréal, Canada) centres on constructed spaces  {architecture}, the phenomena of social insecurities, certain forms of utopias or dystopias in the field of installation.  This work is comprised of sculptural elements, photography, sound, lighting and video with a particular affection for the development of in-situ environments. Her work explores the potential interactions between fictive and documentary elements to generate a new narrative tied to the history of our contemporary societies.

Project approach

Toblerones is the result of photographic research realized in 2010 on a defense system developed in the Swiss countryside during the Second World War. Three zones, one forested, one residential and one semi-industrial, each with a diptych, will be exhibited.  The series of photographs will be introduced and concluded by sculptural elements.  Two lit-up triangles resembling the concrete blocks photographed by the artist.  This sculptural insertion creates a scenic environment where fiction and documentary are interwoven.
