A recent BA graduate in visual arts and media at UQAM, Fanny Latreille has participated in many group exhibits. Her works deal with transmission errors, the distortion of information, and the deviation or superinposition of meaning.
Anyone’s private data can be misappropriated, be it by hackers, private corporations or the state. However, control systems have been put in place to block data theft. The CAPTCHA test (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is one of them, perhaps the most common and widely known of all. The artist wants to stir up reflexions about invisible ways to control inofrmation. Her CAPTCHA pictures feature self-referential texts evoking the city, surveillance and counter-surveillance.
